E&M     Evaluation and Management. Umbrella term applied to business issues required for clinical accessments and treatments.
EBM     Evidence Based Medicine
EDI     Electronic Data Interchange. Use of data standards to transmit information electronically between compliant systems.
EMR     Electronic Medical Record
Epic     Epic Systems Corporation, software vendor officed in Madison, Wisconsin
Epic Community Library     Extensive library of documentation, downloadable materials and training information. Password required for access.
Error     An unintended healthcare outcome caused by a defect in the delivery of care to a patient. Healthcare errors may be errors of commission (doing the wrong thing), omission (not doing the right thing), or execution (doing the right thing incorrectly). Errors may be made by any member of the healthcare team in any healthcare setting.
"Health Seekers"     Internet users who search online for information on health topics, whether they are acting as consumers, caregivers, or e-patients
IMSG     Information Management Steering Group. CMH group chaired by the IM Medical Director.
IT     “Information technology” is a fuzzy term. In this report, it is used in its common current sense, as denoting the technologies used for processing, storing, and transporting information in digital form.
IP     Internet Protocol. A set of standards with govern the internet.
MyChart     Epic software component enabling patients to access the medical information and communicate securely with the healthcare team.
PACS     Picture Archiving Computer System
Patient Safety     The prevention of healthcare errors, and the elimination or mitigation of patient injury caused by healthcare errors. Freedom from accidental injury or harm; ensuring patient safety involves establishing operational systems and processes that minimize the likelihood of errors and maximizes the likelihood of intercepting them when they occur.
